Name: Dr. Annalies Corbin

Job: President and CEO, the PAST Foundation

City: Columbus, Ohio

Q: Tell us about your job.

As President & CEO of a small non-profit I wear many hats. I am responsible for vision and mission as well as fundraising and general operations. I have an amazing Tribe to work with, and honestly, it’s because of these incredible people that PAST is able to flourish.

Q: How did you get into tech?

I am an absolute tech-nerd. If it’s a new technology that can make our work life easier, or a new technology that will inspire kids to lean towards careers in STEM fields then I am all in.  We cannot allow technology to scare us, we have to understand that the rate and pace of change in our world is something that we can embrace and use to inspire the next great innovations.

Q: What does it mean to Link Learning to Life?

Linking Learning to Life means that we teach and engage with content and experiences that are based in the real world. It means that we recognize that every child that walks through our doors are capable of solving the world’s greatest problems.

Q: What advice would you give to women looking to break into STEM?

Try new things, say yes to opportunities – especially opportunities that take you out of your comfort zone. Do not be afraid to ask for help and recognize that you OWN your seat at any and all tables.

Q: What can Ohio do to support and promote women in tech?

Support more programs that bring girls into tech – early and often!

Q: How can we improve STEM education?

STEM is a foundation. It’s not a special class you go to, or do a few times a week. It’s everything, everywhere, everyday. When we stop talking about STEM as an add on – we will know that we have finally arrived. STOP siloing content and experiences and start embracing the unknown as a mechanism to grow skills and opportunity – especially in the tech sectors.

Q: What do you do for fun when you’re not working?

I am an avid wildlife photographer and I like to travel to places I have never been before.
